Website brief worksheet
Agree the customer, outcome, scope and responsibilities before asking a supplier to propose a website.
Use this before requesting a quote or commissioning a redesign. Complete it with the people who handle enquiries and approve content. Leave unknowns visible so the supplier can help resolve them.
How to use it
- Choose one primary customer task and describe the current problem with evidence.
- Separate required launch features from later ideas. Name the content and approval owners.
- Give every supplier the same version, including exclusions and unresolved questions.
A completed example
This example is fictional and illustrates decisions to record. It is not a client case study or a claim about results.
On a narrow screen, scroll across the table to read every column.
| Decision | Illustrative entry | How to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Audience and outcome | A fictional garden-maintenance business wants suitable customers to request a site visit. | Ask the owner which properties and areas the team actually serves. |
| Current problem | The service page does not explain the coverage boundary. | Record the page and the question customers repeatedly ask. |
| Launch scope | Home, two service pages, approved project examples, about and contact. No booking or payments. | Agree the page list and test the enquiry journey. |
| Success check | Visitors can identify coverage, understand the service and send an enquiry that reaches the team. | Use a customer task test and verify form receipt. |
| Ownership | Business approves facts and supplies project permissions; supplier prepares layouts and implementation. | Name the individuals and approval dates in the real brief. |
Your worksheet
Edit the fields below, then copy or print your completed version. Edits stay in this tab and are not sent to AfterWorks or saved after you leave. The download is always the blank template. Keep passwords and personal customer information out.
Before you call it complete
- The business facts are approved, not inferred.
- Required features and later ideas are separate.
- Every access request will use a secure handover, not this worksheet.
- The supplier can explain what is included and what remains uncertain.
